I want to do a post dedicated to Matt in honor of his birthday and our upcoming dating anniversary (7 years!).
Matt is a never ending goofball filled with energy and optimism. The exact opposite of me! He's funny, he talks a lot, he sings a lot, and if he isn't talking or singing, he's drumming on objects or making instrument noises with his mouth (his favorites are trumpet noises that are extremely irritating). One of my favorite things about him is that he smiles a lot. Usually big goofy grins! Sometimes I'll "sneak up" on him and watch him when he doesn't know I'm there. Oftentimes he has a smile on his face, even though he isn't doing anything out of the ordinary, even though no one else is in the room. He can be paying bills with a smile on his face. Weird, huh!? It never ceases to amaze me how much that man smiles.
As many of you know, 2008 was the worst year of my life and I think it's safe to say it was the worst year of Matt's life too. Sometimes we'd go to bed and I'd lay down and look over at him. He'd be watching me with a smile on his face. I'd ask him, "how can you be so happy all the time?" He always looks on the bright side of things. He'd list all the reasons he had to be happy. And they were valid reasons. It's just that I tend to look at the negative things, the bad things happening in my life. I sometimes forget about the good things or take them for granted. But Matt never does. Aww...I'm about to cry just thinking about how sweet he is!
He is talented in many, many ways. As a matter of fact, the first year we dated I struggled with envy. He is naturally talented in all the ways I wish I was talented. He has a beautiful voice, plays the guitar, piano, bass guitar, and drums. He's good at sports, especially soccer (since that's his favorite). He is a good actor. He's never been in a drama group, but in high school my good friend was casting for a play and really wanted him in it. She could tell how good he would be for the part and she didn't even know him all that well. He's obviously a great public speaker. He's very good with people and always knows what to say. He has a photographic memory and is therefore a great test taker. He's really smart too (it helps that he can remember almost everything he hears/reads!). He's amazing at video games. He almost always wins and plays on expert levels on every game. I sometimes tell him to back off a little when we have guests over to play because I'm afraid that they aren't having fun majorly losing over and over. Some people pick on him saying he must play all the time, but that isn't true. He rarely plays Ninten.do unless he has friends over. I've seen him play a game for the first time, and get the high score.
He used to play the computer game Worl.d of Wa.rcraft TOO MUCH, but he completely quit playing back in November so now he spends most of that time hanging out with me! He goes to bed with me every night, even now that I'm pregnant and often go to bed at 10:30. He used to stay up until 2 or 3 almost every morning playing while I went to bed alone. The awesome thing is that he quit without me nagging or even asking him too. He realized on his own that he was spending too much time playing that and not enough time with me. He still plays computer games sometimes, but usually on the weekends.
He's not a perfectionist, but when he does something, he does it right. I never have to worry that he will do a sloppy or incorrect job on something, which is a big relief! He helps out around the house all the time! Especially now that I'm pregnant. He also keeps his mouth closed about the mess the house is in. lol That's a big blessing! He's good at multitasking and he's very aware. He doesn't space out a lot and he's usually on top of things, which definitely helps us get along.
Obviously there are things that annoy me about him (some of these good things do when I'm in a bad mood or want some peace and quiet!), but overall I love his personality and I'm glad that we are opposites. It's always weird when he's quiet and subdued. Sometimes he gets headaches and stops talking, goofing off, and smiling. It always freaks me out. I hate it. When he's making non-stop noise I sometimes complain, but then when he's quiet it bothers me even more.
Well, I'm sure I'm leaving something important out, but this is already so long and I'm sure most of you don't really care. But I care about Matt and love him with all my heart. He's my best friend as well as my husband and I think we have something really special.

Aww... this is a sweet post. Hope you're doing well
ReplyDeleteSweet post, Andrea. I had to laugh - I'd check my husband's temperature if I found him smiling while paying bills! lol! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post! Matt should rub some of his optimism on Daniel, LOL!
