On Friday we went to the Japanese steakhouse and had so much fun! The chefs cook the food right in front of you and put on a show, doing tricks and telling jokes while they cook. You share the table with other people (it wraps around a huge griddle that the chef cooks on). We had 3 other couples sharing at the table with us. My mom thinks that's very uncomfortable, but it's not uncomfortable at all to me, and I'm a very private person. It's not like you are facing a stranger or sitting really close to them. I hardly even noticed everyone else except when the chef would pick on someone and when he tossed zucchini pieces for each person to try to catch in their mouths! It was really fun, even though it hit me in the side of the head. lol Matt was the only person at the table who caught his and I was able to make fun of him for his big mouth.
We decided to skip a movie. Matt really wanted to take me, but we received a "nice" surprise in the mail a few days ago. A large medical bill. It's my fault because the eye doctor I went to back in early December wasn't covered by our medical insurance since I had a regular exam. I knew she was covered by our insurance, I just didn't know that was only if I had some other reason for visiting besides a normal exam. I should have found a doctor covered by our vision insurance (duh). I was thinking our vision insurance was for ordering contacts/glasses, but obviously it's for the exams too. It's my mistake and we're paying for it. Literally. :-P But it could be a lot worse, at least it's only a $150. Haha only. It could be worse though. Anyway, figures that bill would be due the same week as Valentine's and Matt's birthday, just when we planned to splurge. So we skipped the movie, but still went out for dinner.
On Valentine's Day we went over to my family's house in the evening to have a little party for Matt's birthday. My mom made a steak dinner, it was so nice of her! We watched TV with them and my sister made him cupcakes. He opened his present from my parents, a little sports bag and some shorts for when he plays soccer. We had a good time over there and it was nice to get such a great dinner without having to cook. ;-)
And then yesterday, Matt's birthday (he turned 25), we went to IH.OP for a late breakfast, then straight to church. We went to his parents' house in the later afternoon to go hiking at the park across from their house. His mom wasn't there, but by the time we got back from our hike she was. So we were able to see his family a little for his birthday. I was a little upset that they don't do anything for his birthday. His dad didn't even say "happy birthday" to him. I brought up the fact that it was his birthday after we had been there for 10 minutes (he was confused that we had brought leftover cupcakes over. duh, they are birthday cupcakes) and he said, "oh yeah, I guess it's that time of year." So I was mad and brought it up to Matt, but he claims it doesn't bother him and that it's just the way his parents are. I guess it explains why in previous years I've always been the one to get the family together for his birthday. I just didn't realize it was such a NOT big deal that they don't even tell him "happy birthday." I guess that's why they don't tell me that either. But at least his mom told him and his sister called later that night to tell him too. So whatever. It makes me upset just to think about, and this new blog is supposed to be positive!
We had a fun time hiking although we argued a little about the birthday thing and then about something else. That was more of a friendly argument though. lol Just a debate I suppose. But we had fun talking about other things too. I guess everyone is this way, but I discover new things about Matt all the time. Like new opinions and thoughts. We've been in a relationship for almost 7 years and we've been married over 2, so you'd think we'd get "bored," but we always have something to talk about and it doesn't get repetitive (usually). It helps that Matt is a big loudmouth, he rarely stops talking!
I didn't have time to make a special dinner for him because we hiked for so long, but we ate Tac.o Be.ll and watched TV. I think all in all it was a good day and I'm going to make his favorite meal tonight instead. I'm not going to make his cheesecake pie right now because we still have several cupcakes, but I think I might next weekend.
So now you know all of the boring details!
