The last full week of my first trimester! Amazing! The baby is now the size of a lime. Whoa! I haven't noticed any change in my "bump," not even when I look at it myself. It's still uncomfortable (all squished feeling) when I bend over or curl up in a ball to sleep or pull my legs up to my chest while sitting which is one of my computer sitting positions of course. ;-)
The past couple of weeks the nausea has been getting better. I was happy for that, although I've still had indigestion and an upset stomach. However, the past 3 or 4 days the nausea has come back! It's back to being almost constant with some times being worse than others. And eating doesn't help as much as it did (it only helps keep it away for a little while), so it's actually worse than it was several weeks ago! My newest symptom: burping. A lot. Eww! I don't know about you, but I don't like burping in public or even in front of Matt. Thankfully I'm at home alone most of the day so it's not that much of an issue. Earlier I burped so loud I scared Serenity. lol I'm not a big burper normally, so it's weird to hear myself burping so loud.
I haven't been sleeping well at all the past few weeks (basically since I found out I was pregnant). Last night was one of the worst nights too. I ended up laying in bed really late this morning, which was just a waste of time since I didn't sleep. Now I don't want to take a nap because I've already wasted half the day laying around. I haven't taken many naps since getting pregnant actually. I'm not a fan of naps, but I do take them if I'm incredibly tired or have a headache.
We received our tax returns and so now we're seriously looking at cars. Yay! The only debate we have going now is whether to buy a cheaper car that we know won't last as long and then use the other half of our savings to pay off one of our school loans (Matt's opinion) or to buy a nicer, more expensive car that we know will last longer (my opinion). And we won't even be going into debt for a nicer car, we can pay up front with cash. I understand Matt's preference and I'm seriously considering it, but it's hard for me to choose that option. I've always been taught that if you are going to do something, do it right. That it's wiser to invest money in something that will last longer and won't break in the meantime. Obviously, that option isn't always available to us, and we're already looking at "medium grade" cars (Mazd.as, Toy.otas...). So I feel like going down even lower (Matt's thinking about a Saturn) isn't the best thing to do. But I do understand that it would be nice to be that much closer to being debt free. If we can save all the money we put towards school loans, we'd save money in the long run. I'm just afraid that in the future we'll be saving money for things like a nicer house, school tuitions, etc, and that buying a nicer car then will be a problem. Whereas we have the money for a nicer car now when we aren't worrying about saving for other large expenses. *sigh* It's such a hard decision!!! What would you do?

I can't believe that you are already 12 weeks. I was wondering today how many weeks you officially were. It has flown by (for me at least). I encourage you to take as many naps as you can now:) You will wish you had when your baby arrives. I have a hard time being able to take a nap with the kids sleep schedule, but I feel so much better when I get to take one.
ReplyDeleteWe paid off R's school loan last year with our tax return and I can not tell you what a relief it was to have it finally paid off. Maybe you will be able to find a reliable car and pay the loan off.
Totally agree with Anne, Andrea.....get as many naps in as you can because when that little blessing arrives you will be wishing you did..lol!
ReplyDeleteyou need to sleep dude, when I was pregnant early on I slept for like 12 hours straight on some days, no one tells you that your body is going to be so tired, but think about how hard its working already!
ReplyDeleteJust breezing by and read your blog, had to offer some tidbits of advice. Prioritize your debt by paying off the things with the highest interest rates first. So, if you have student loan debt, you should pay it off first and foremost. If you have CC debt that's higher interest, pay it first. I would pay whatever debt first, then look at what's leftover for a car. You can get a fabulous, reliable car on autotrader or similar sites, just be savvy about the seller. I bought my Honda Civic (145,000 miles and kickin') on autotrader for 6 grand below retail with just 23000 miles on it.
ReplyDeleteCan I give you a piece of advice on a GREAT car to own? Toyota Camry!
ReplyDeleteIn 2002, we bought a 1997 Camry with 100,000 miles on it. Paid it off, drove it some more. Last year, it had well over 200,000 miles on it and was still running like a champ when my husband had an accident and totaled it.
The insurance company gave us $3000.00 for it! We then started looking for another Camry. We bought a 2003 with low miles at a great price and we LOVE it. We plan on keeping it forever (if he does not wreck this one too).
I CANNOT believe you are 12 weeks already! It always seems to go so fast for everybody else! lol.
ReplyDeleteAs for the car situation, I drive a Saturn and I love it. It wasn't my first choice for a car, but it was sooo much less expensive for the same milage and features of other vehicles. I have cruise, cd player, PL & PW and all that good stuff. I bought mine used (a 2003 with 28,xxx miles) and have put over 50,xxx miles on it without having any problems except routine maintenance, and replacing one part of the security system -minor repair-cost $65.
I was dissappointed at first that I had to 'settle' for this car, but now am glad I have it. As someone told me then, a car is one of the biggest investments you ever make, besides a house, and it is the one investment that will always depreciate and loose value.
Good luck with your decision!
Don't buy a Saturn! They are pieces of junk. My mom had 2 of them and they just fall apart. So it's not a wise investment for that car.
ReplyDeleteThe best car for your money is Honda. They are very well made and last a LONG time! Plus, most of them look really good.
If you pay off the student loan then you guys will have that extra money every month to put toward a nicer car. I think that's a great compromise! He's getting his loan paid off and you're getting the nicer car you want.
Oh and can I just say I totally understand the sleep thing. I used to sleep like a LOG. Now I wake up and just lay there, unable to fall back asleep. It's so annoying! And then I wake up so tired I can't keep my eyes open.
ReplyDeleteYou know what other LOVELY symptom you get when pregnant? Snoring! Daniel says I snore like a trucker when I'm pregnant. When I'm not pregnant I don't make a sound (sometimes he thinks I died in my sleep because I'm so quiet).
Hey sweetie. Loving these posts. :o)
ReplyDeleteJust tagged you.
Great advice, everyone! As a matter of fact, I made the decision to go with a cheaper car and pay off the loan. It will be very nice to get out of debt. That's something that will impact us for life...for the better.
ReplyDeleteLaceFace, I wish we could find a Civic for that price with such a small mileage!
Monkey's Momma, funny that you should mention it, we found a Corolla for a good price and Matt got it confused with a Camry. He was bummed when he found out it was a compact Corolla because we'd like a Camry!
Summerstarr, I have a Saturn now, but it's a 96. Mine has lasted so long and I've never had a single problem with it (I had to replace the alternator once, regular maintenance). People make fun of me for having a Saturn (mine is the bare basics, no power locks or windows or cruise control), but hey! I get great gas mileage and never have a problem with it. I'm going to be so sad when it dies :-(
Joy, lol I have a Saturn now! But it is an older one, my dad said they made them better back then (at least in my model). We're going to have to settle for less this time around, but I'm hoping to be able to afford a Toyota or Honda when my car dies. They are nice! I don't know if I snore now because Matt sleeps so heavily that he wouldn't hear me if I did. I know I do drool more than I used to though!! lol
Hi Andrea,
ReplyDeleteI am glad that everything is going so well! Napping seems to be my number one past time as well. Might as well take advantage of this time... cos for the next 18 years we'll have no time to rest at all. Or so I've been told :)
