Baby Games

Some games I like to play with Evan:
  • "How big is Evan?" "SSOOO big!" (and spread his arms out)
  • "This little piggy went to market"
  • the airplane game (where I put his belly against my shins and lay down and lift my legs so he's "flying" in the air)
  • pretending to steal his nose (this one's his favorite by far, it gets the biggest smiles and even some laughs...don't ask me why. lol)
  • holding his toys up and moving them so he can bat at them and follow them with his eyes
  • putting his rattle in his hand so he can shake it...or put it in his mouth
3 months old with his rattle

THIS is his favorite toy. He'll lose interest in his other toys, but he's always ready to track this one with his eyes and try to grab at it. This is also the only toy he'll grab on his own, without us holding it against his hand first.
2.5 months old with his caterpillar (yes, Daddy is responsible for making it look like the hungry caterpillar ate through Evan!)

What games do you play with your child and how old is he/she? Any more ideas for games to play with 3-4 month olds? It's always hard for me to think of things to do with Evan during his play time.

  1. Diego only plays with cars or reads books. He makes car noises and pushes them around the house. I was very surprised that he was so interested in books at a young age, I recommend reading to Evan even now!

  2. I play those same games with Gamma. And I growl and chase the kids around the house. Kids are so much fun.

  3. Norah is 16 weeks old now. I do many of the same things. One thing that is oddly fun is that Norah really likes different smells. I discovered this on a walk when I picked some of our neighbor's lavender and held it to her nose. Now, I try out new smells on her. Cinnamon, nutmeg, different soaps we have around. She will move her nose toward them and often grab my hand to pull it closer. I haven't tried scents I know she will hate. I just go for the sweet-smelling ones.

  4. Our games with the older girls are mostly physical (wrestling, chasing, hide-n-seek, etc.). We also throw in a few board games, pretend play, dress-up, building blocks, puzzles, reading books, etc.

With Zoƫ I try to play Peek-a-Boo but she just stares at me. We've done tummy time a handful of times already and shake rattles for her to look at.

One game you could play with Evan is to wiggle a body part and name it! Doesn't seem like a whole lot of fun but the wiggling might make him giggle and he'll be learning vocab at the same time. My kids always knew all of their body parts (and I do mean ALL- even wrists, shins, elbows, eyebrows, etc.) before their 2nd birthdays.

You could also do baby sign but that's not really a game.
