On Saturday night we told Matt's parents about the baby. I was so nervous about going over there, but when we arrived it was just FIL and MIL. I was kind of glad SIL and her family weren't there. We ended up having a great time with them. They took us to dinner to celebrate and then we spent time cleaning out Matt's old bedroom closet. He rediscovered all of his childhood stuff like his Coc.a Col.a and cow collections. And computer stuff. lol
MIL cried when we told them the news. My FIL hugged us both and seemed very interested in all the details. MIL has a neat little magazine (from the 70s I think) that has actual pictures of babies in the womb. It was so cool to look at the 6-8 week pictures and think, this is what my baby looks like! We were all amazed at the details the baby has like arms, legs, fingers, toes, a nose... I've read about that and seen some drawings, but it was so different to see the actual pictures. So I was really glad we went over there and told them. It went perfectly. MIL has a little countdown plaque (I guess she got it for SIL's pregnancy). She got it out and we calculated that I have 33 weeks to go (almost 32 now). I told her to countdown on Wednesdays. She put it up on the mantle in their living room where it can easily be seen. I was very touched.
I'm starting to tell some of our friends. I thought about who to tell in person and decided not to tell any of them that way (for now). I mass messaged some of my better friends on facebook and individual messaged some. I do want to get together with them at some point to celebrate, but I want to wait awhile. They are all really excited though and it makes me so happy!! I also called my grandmother to tell her last night. She was happy and insisted that this time around is going to be okay. She was excited because the "year of 9s" is going to be special for her. In 1959 she graduated high school and got married. And now in 2009 she's celebrating her 50th anniversary, has 2 grandkids graduating high school, is retiring, and is now going to have her first great-grandchild. I need to call my other grandma soon to tell her too.
Tonight I'm going to a Tupperware party with my mom. Hopefully I'll be feeling okay! I'm planning on telling the ladies there about the pregnancy (there will only be a few there, it's a very small party). At least 2 of them are women I've known since my childhood and are good family friends. They will be the first people I've told in person except our parents (and people I don't know well like my chiropractor and hair stylist). But they are like family to me so I think it will be exciting!

I want to go to a tupperwear party. Heh.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone ever say anything to you about telling them so early? I always got weird comments from Husband's family because we told them when I was so early on. I thought it was my right to tell them when I wanted, but I guess they thought I should wait longer.
It's the most exciting thing getting to tell everyone. I'm so glad your in-laws were so nice about it all.
ReplyDeleteI never told people in a very exciting way, I was just to darn excited and blabbed it out straight away to nearly anyone that would listen.
I'm starting to forget some of the details of my pregnancy so maybe I need to write them down soon...
I got one of those magazines (an updated one :) at my first dr's appt. I love looking at the pictures too. Glad everything is going well! It is so nice to be able tell people!
ReplyDeleteSo fun telling! I started telling when I heard/saw the heartbeat too. MIL's countdown thing is so sweet!
